unquestionably the largest city in the free-to-play world, Varrock is a common destination for free-to-play and pay-to-play alike. Varrock contains the Grand Exchange, the trading hub of Runescape. To those who don't know about the Grand Exchange (GE for short), it is a place where players can buy and sell any tradable item. to buy an item, you simply have the money in your inventory, put up a buy offer, and if someone is selling that item for the buyer's price, or lower, the buyer can take the item from the exchange, and the seller gets the money.
About half of the free-player quests use locations and things in Varrock, and a few even start in the area. The quest Romeo and Juliet, takes place completely in the Varrock area.
there are several ways to get to Varrock. the easiest (and one of the few available to free players) is to cast the Varrock teleport spell (level 25 magic required). if you have started the Giant Dwarf quest(to the point of gaining access to the mine carts), you can take them to and from Keldagrim, White Wolf Mountain (Fishing Contest quest required), or Ice Mountain. If you have done the Tree Gnome Village quest, you can use the Spirit Tree on the north-east corner of the GE. Other methods include Fairy Rings (Fairy Tale Part II at least to the point of Fairy Ring access), and the cannoes.
South of the Grand Exchange, is the Cooking Guild (32 cooking and a chef's hat/cooking skill cape must be wielded to enter) For free players, the cooking guild is a great place to train cooking until the player cooks lobsters/swordfish. the Cooking Guild has every ingredient for cooking apple pies, and making wine right inside (Though you will have to run behind the guild to get grain. Don't worry, it only takes a few seconds to get there).
North-east of Varrock is the sawmill. The sawmill is where members can buy planks (assuming they have the logs required in their inventory.) used for the construction Skill.
South of Varrock is the Champions' Guild. the Champions' Guild requires 32 quest points to enter, and is where the quest Dragon Slayer is started. on the top floor of the Champions' Guild contains shops selling Runite armour (no rune plate body, just rune chainbody.) Before buying from these shops, check the Grand Exchange prices of the items, because Runite equipment is often cheaper there than in these shops. In the basement is where the Champion's ChallengeDistraction and Diversion is fought.
For new players, Varrock is a great place to get swords, and long swords (up to Adamantite), though, you may want to get a scimitar rather than a long sword(scimitars are faster, and only hit slightly lower than long swords. the scimitar's speed makes up for the slightly lower hits. for scimitars up to Mithril, go to Al Kharid)
next time you need some equipment, Varrock is the place to go, because the Grand Exchange is right there.

Lumbridge
When you complete the tutorial, you find yourself in a nice town, Lumbridge, an ideal place for beginners. Unless your a member who has gotten to a certain point in the Achievement Diaries for other areas, when you die, you respawn in the Lumbridge castle court yard. This is also where the Lumbridge teleport will send you (31 magic, and the required runes), and where (in the regular spell book) the home teleport (1 magic, no runes are needed, but you can only cast this spell once every 30 minutes)sends you. Lumbridge contains a few shops, including Bob's Brilliant Axes, the General Store, and a fishing shop. Lumbridge also holds a church, an anvil, a furnace (for smelting metal bars), and a windmill (for making flour. there is also a wheat field next to the windmill). there are three dungeons around Lumbridge: the Lumbridge Swamp Dungeon (members only), the Lumbridge Catacombs (a low level dungeon containing monster from level 1 to level 20. great place for new players to train combat. Requires the quest The Blood Pact) and another members only dungeon in the cellar under the kitchen (only accessable after The Lost Tribe quest.) The two members dungeons are connected. for the Lumbridge castle dungeon, you will need a light source.

I spent a few hours sitting at the duck pond fishing and cooking crayfish from level 12 to level 32 ( the level required for the cooking guild) Low level miners and/or smiths can head through the Lumbridge graveyard, and follow the river Lum to a mining spot with copper and tin rocks. a perfect place for mining the ores for bronze bars. there is also a furnace north-east of Lumbridge castle, and an anvil in the same hut. there are some combat dummies for those who don't have food. (though these dummies can only be used up to 7 combat/magic/ranged)

The Town of Catherby
Imagine sitting on the shore of a sunny, warm beach, with a mountain just east of you, and catching some lobsters on a beautiful day. That is what Catherby is like. Catherby is the most popular place to fish in the RuneScape members' worlds. Any member can fish here. Catherby has things people can fish from fishing level 1 (shrimp) all the way to level 76 (sharks). If you are fishing lobster, tuna, swordfish, or sharks here, you may want your public chat on, because lobster, tuna, swordfish, and sharks are slow to fish at any level, thus, If your fishing large numbers of these, you will likely get bored, and having someone to talk to can really make it more interesting. Sometimes when I'm fishing these, I play cards while my character fishes here. Something to do with your mind would be good. some people listen to music, or watch TV with their laptop in there lap, or countless other things. Catherby also houses the water Obelisk for charging water orbs. Catherby has beehives, and a flax field just to the west. to the north is my personal favourite farming patch.

Mini game Reviews
For new Runescape members it can be scary going into a mini game. you may wonder "is this a mini game in which risk my expensive stuff?" or "is this minigame going to be worth it?" so, here is a few brief reviews of the mini games I have tried, and they also include who it's best for.
Castle Wars
If you are a high level player who likes player killing, this game is for you. this game is pretty much Capture-the-Flag. should you die in this mini game, you will respawn in the room with bandages, with all your items. If you have Ancient Magiks, and plenty of runes, you should bring your best mage gear and cast the spells from the castle walls.
Fishing Trawler
If you are a good fisherman, you may wish to try this game. in this game your goal is to keep the boat working, by fixing nets, filling holes, etc. remember you must keep doing something to stay on the ship, or else you will be marooned. When I tried this game, it was so crowded on the ship, there was nothing for me to do. everyone was doing some thing except me. I got marooned. you may want to do this game with a clan, rather than random people.
Fist of Guthix
This game is centered around player killing. in this game you are either the hunter or the hunted. as the hunted, you are trying to collect charges before the hunter kills you. The hunter is trying to kill the hunted before the hunted gets too many charges. after the hunted is killed, the two player switch roles. some great rewards. ideal for a pure. note: when you die in Fist of Guthix you keep all carried items.
Mage Training Arena
It is recommended to have 54 rune crafting becouse you go through a lot of runes here. there are four mini-mini games: Telekinetic Theatre,Alchemists' Playground, Enchanting Chamber, and Creature Graveyard. these three rooms use most of the types of runes in the game, but at 54 rune crafting, you can all the runes used in any of the mini-mini games. becouse this mini game has so much to it, click on the name of the mini game for information. Note: should you dies in here, you will respawn outside the mini game portals with all your stuff.
Pest Control
This is my favorite combat-based mini game. this is yet another game where if you die, you respawn at the place where the game started. in this game you will need your best combat gear, and maybe some lobsters, but you won't need any food better than lobster becouse this game is so quick. What you are doing is trying to kill all the void creatures, and destroy the four void portals before the void creatures kill the void knight. each round of Pest control lasts 2-5 minutes.
Soul Wars
In Soul Wars you are trying to defeat the opposing team's Avatar. the Avatar is level 525. but this is multi-way combat, so that shouldn't be a problem. you can weaken the enemy avatar by puting soul shards into the Soul Obelisk, and strengthen your avatar by burying bones in a grave yard. note: this is a safe mini game. should you die, you will respawn in a grave yard with all your items. this game was impossible for me at level 75. it appears Ancient Magiks would be an advantage.
Stealing Creation
In Stealing Creation, you are collecting sacred clay, and turning it into items you can use for player killing, or you can deposite the items for a bunch of points. if you are a low combat level, you may want to find a non-combat Stealing Creation clan, otherwise you will be dead meat. note: should you die in this game, you will lose all carried equipmeant and respawn at you teams base. since you can't take anything into the game, you can just jump back in, create more equipmeant and you're back in the game.
Vinesweeper
Vinesweeper is a mini game based on the old game Mine Sweeper. you are trying to figure out where a seed is in the feilds and flag it. should you dig up some seeds, you will lose a bunch of points but NOT start the whole thing over, like in Mine Sweeper. this game is a great source of seeds fro farming.

What is Runescape?
Runescape is an online role-playing game in which you go through a virtual world doing quests, training skills, fighting monsters, and just plain chatting with other Runescape players. Runescape differs from other online role-playing games (RPGs) in that you don't have to fight monsters to make money. You can train non-combat skills and get along fine. I know a few skillers (players who don't fight at all, generally staying at combat level 3, the level all player start with in Runescape) who are doing great and loving the game. Runescape has 25 skills, 7 of which are combat skills. These skills include: fishing, cooking, mining, smithing, fletching, and several others.
How to make money is the most commonly asked question in the game, and there is no one answer. There are hundreds of ways to make money, ranging from fighting certain monsters (such as black demons) to chopping yew trees, to making cannonballs.
If you have not tried Runescape, I recommend you do because, chances are, you'd be hooked.

What is Ticket to Rune?
Ticket to Rune is a blog all about Runescape. In this blog, I will share my opinions, discoveries, and tips to help you in playing Runescape.
A little background: I am Trainguyrom. I have been playing Runescape for about 16 months. I have a members account (Trainguyrom) and a free-to-play account(Trainguyrom2) You may think I'm a noob, and know nothing about the game, but I have done a lot, and learned a lot.
I have reached a total level of over 1150, 78 combat, over 100 quest points, 2 million GP, and another 2 or 3 million in stuff. I play Runescape in most of my spare time, and love almost all the aspects of the game.
